Obverse

Queen Elizabeth II features on the obverse side of 2022 Tokelau Chronos Silver Coins. In this 1998 design by Ian Rank-Broadley, the Queen appears in a simplified neo-classical style with the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara on her head. On both the left and right sides of the effigy you will see clock mechanism designs, and in the background, there is a lined pattern rendered in perfect symmetry. You will also see inscriptions that read ELIZABETH II, TOKELAU, 2022, 1 OZ FINE SILVER, .9999.

Reverse

A clock design can be found on the reverse field of 2022 Chronos 1 oz Silver Coins. The hands of the clock point at five minutes to twelve, while the numbers are shown in Old English Roman Numeric form. A remarkable kaleidoscopic pattern is seen in the background, and the reverse inscriptions read 6 DOLLARS, CHRONOS, AG.

History

The Chronos series is one of the most popular collections produced by the Pressburg Mint. The series gets its name from Chronos, the God of Time in Greek Mythology. Early descriptions of this deity point out that he had both a serpentine quality as well as three heads. But later Roman writings about the god state that he had the appearance of an old man. From this source, we get the more modern depictions of Father Time, which tend to show a bearded elder holding a scythe and hourglass.
